Laser FAQ’s
Results will vary from person to person. Hormonal changes and certain medications can affect your hair growth too. Which, is why we cannot say it is 100% Hair Removal. But, you can experience up to 90% permanent hair reduction after you have completed all your treatments.
The occasional top up session may be required.
Depending on the treatment area decides the time inbetween each treatment.
However, they are usually spaced about 4- 6 weeks apart. This is so your sessions are timed with your hair growth cycle that takes about 6 weeks.
Treating the legs however you need 8 weeks between each treatment.
Yes, you can shave in between each session. But, you must NOT remove the hair from the root (waxing or epilating)
You must come to each appointment with the area shaved, as we cannot Laser with Hair Growth. The laser needs to be directed to the root.
The short answer is no, you cannot have Laser Hair Removal over a tattoo. The Laser will be attracted to the colour pigment in the ink causing pigmentation issue to the skin.
Compared to other forms of hair removal like waxing or epilation most people would say Laser is slightly uncomfortable, but not painful. Of course, we all experience pain differently and some areas of the body are more sensitive than others. When asked to compare what is compares to, the best way we can describe how it feels is being flicked with an elastic band.
After your session, the treated area is quite sensitive and can appear red for a few hours afterwards.
What is the difference between IPL and Laser?
Not all Laser Hair Removal treatments are true lasers. A large number of practises promote and market IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments as Laser Hair Removal.
These are commonly found on daily deal web pages, where it can be very tempting to shop around for the best deal. However, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
There is infact a significant difference between a laser and an IPL machine, when it comes to permanent hair reduction…
IPL | Laser |
---|---|
More sessions required | Fewer sessions required |
Can cause burns on darker skin tones | Can be used on all skin types |
IPLs are not lasers, they are broad spectrums of dispersed wavelengths which cannot be focused to a concentrated area | Lasers use a single precise Wavelength of light with a concentrated beam and specific target |
Shallow penetration | Deep penetration, targeting the root of the hair, for effective removal of deeper thicker hairs |
Results are less effective | Results are extremely effective |

Laser Pre Care:
It is CRITICAL that you avoid the sun/ any sunbeds/ showers or spray tans 4 weeks before your Laser Treatment. Particularly 2 weeks before treatment. The reason for this is that recently tanned skin cannot be treated as this could result in hyperpigmentation, and far more susceptible to burning. If you arrive to the treatment with a tan, we will regrettably have to postpone the treatment until the tan has completely faded.
Your safety is our priority and by no means would we compromise on this.
A sunblock of a minimum SPF 30 must always be used throughout the treatment and reapply every two hours to the area treated.
Avoid Acne Medication 6-9 months prior to Laser Hair Removal Treatment.
Wait at least 2 weeks for Laser Hair Removal if you have had a Chemical Peel or Injections (Botox/fillers and collagen) in the area to be treated.
Avoid Topical creams that contain AHA’s and Vitamin A content for 7 days prior to the treatment.
Do not perform any physical activity that increases body temperature or blood pressure within 2 hours before and after treatment.
Skin should be clean with no makeup, deodorant perfume, or sunscreen on the area.
Medical History is taken at the initial consultation; However, we depend on you to notify us of any changes in medication including those prescribed, and herbal medications.
Certain antibiotics increase skins sensitivity, we recommend you consult with your doctor prior to Laser Hair removal if you are taking a long-term antibiotic.
If you are unwell and are prescribed a course of antibiotics you must wait 2 weeks until having a Laser Hair Removal Treatment.
Laser Post Care:
Immediately aftertreatmentthere will be Erythema (redness and possibly minor swelling) ofthe follicles which could last 2 hours and possibly a little longer.
The treated area may feel like sunburn for a few days aftertreatment.Keep the area cool dry and clean.
Very occasionally, the skins surface may blister, weep become crusted or mildly burn. Do not panic! But, if this happens give us a call and we can advise the best cause of action.
Aloe Vera Gel is recommended following the treatment, a cold compress could be used ifthe area still feels warm. Do NOT apply ice packs orice directly on the treated area.
Makeup can be used 6 hours aftertreatmentifthe skin is notirritated.
Avoid picking or scratching the area.
DO NOT wax, thread, bleach or use and depilatory creams in between yourlasertreatments.
You can shave ortrim the area if needed, and this can be done as many times you like in-between treatments.
It is critical you avoid direct sun exposure aftertreatment, and forthe following 4 weeks aftertreatment ofthe area treated.
Anywhere between 10 and 21 days you may notice shedding ofthe hair. This is completely normal as the treated hairs have been released.
After Underarm treatment, you may wish to use talc ratherthan deodorantfor 24 hours as we advise not to use a deodorant for this length of time.
There are no restrictions to bathing, however, treat the skin gently as if you have sunburn.
Avoid steam baths and saunas for 1 week.
Avoid swimming for 1 week.
Avoid exfoliating or microdermabrasion 10 days aftertreatment.

Hair Growth Cycle
There are three stages of hair growth, however treatment is only successful when the hair is in the ‘Growing Anagen Stage’. This is why it is important to book a course of treatments for optimum results.
For the treatment to work successfully the hair has to be in its growing stage. You will recognise this as hairs in their growing ‘anagen’ stage have a ‘big juicy bulb’ at the end of them, which means that they are one of the 20 to 40% of living ‘anagen’ hairs on the body.
When you pull a hair out and it has a withered end, it’s a dead hair and can stay on the skin for up to three weeks. This is why we recommend having a course of six treatments, to ensure we target all hairs in their living ‘anagen’ cycle.
Laser hair removal can only treat hairs in their growing ‘anagen’ stage.
