Jowls
It happens to us all. As we get older, we can often develop loose skin that droops along our lower jawline. This is given the rather unpleasant name of a “sagging jowl”. Losing a crisp jawline can be ageing but when it happens gradually it is hard to notice on yourself.
A "turkey neck" is a common term used to describe the appearance of loose, saggy skin on the neck, often seen as we age. This condition is caused by a loss of skin elasticity and the gradual deterioration of the underlying neck muscles and tissues.
As a result, the skin on the neck may appear wrinkled and droopy, creating the appearance of a "turkey wattle." This condition can be exacerbated by factors such as weight gain and loss, sun exposure, and genetics.
Treatment options for a "turkey neck" include cosmetic procedures, such as neck lifts and neck injections, as well as non-invasive treatments, such as ultrasound therapy and skin tightening creams.
In some cases, lifestyle changes, such as maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding sun exposure, and adopting a consistent skincare routine, can also help to improve the appearance of a "turkey neck."
Jowls tend to creep up on us with age, depending on our genetics and our bone structure. As we age, the skin around our jawline loses elasticity and the skin’s production of collagen – our skin’s internal scaffolding – decreases meaning it no longer has the strength to defy gravity.
Sun damage, genetics, weight fluctuations and unhealthy lifestyle choices can all speed up the effects of gravity and our faces start to lose definition as a result.
Remember that jowls are entirely natural and most of us end up with them - but if you want to get rid of or minimise yours, you don’t have to suffer…. there are things you can do about this.

If you have a lot of loose skin and/or heavy jowls descending under your jaw and into your neck, and if you’re a bit older, you may be better off considering a neck lift or lower face lift to deal with them.
I know surgery is something that most people want to avoid, but if you are past the point where tweakments can make enough of a difference for you, it is worth considering.
