Acne Scarring

Acne scarring is the result of skin damage caused by severe or persistent acne. When the skin is inflamed, the normal process of skin healing can be disrupted, leading to the formation of scars.

There are several types of acne scars, including:

Ice Pick Scars
These are deep, narrow scars that look like they were made by a sharp object.

Boxcar Scars
These are round or oval scars that have sharp edges and are shallow or medium in depth.

Rolling Scars
These are shallow scars that have a rolling or wave-like appearance, giving the skin a rough texture.

Hypertrophic Scars
These are raised scars that form as a result of an overproduction of collagen during the healing process.

Acne scarring can be challenging to treat and may require a combination of treatments, including chemical peels, microdermabrasion and fillers.

It is important for individuals with acne scarring to work closely with their therapist to determine the best approach for their specific skin type and needs.

It is also important for individuals with acne to be proactive in preventing scarring by seeking early treatment and using gentle skincare products that will not exacerbate the acne.
