Jowls

Concerns jowl

It happens to us all. As we get older, we can often develop loose skin that droops along our lower jawline. This is given the rather unpleasant name of a “sagging jowl”. Losing a crisp jawline can be ageing but when it happens gradually it is hard to notice on yourself.

A "turkey neck" is a common term used to describe the appearance of loose, saggy skin on the neck, often seen as we age. This condition is caused by a loss of skin elasticity and the gradual deterioration of the underlying neck muscles and tissues.

As a result, the skin on the neck may appear wrinkled and droopy, creating the appearance of a "turkey wattle." This condition can be exacerbated by factors such as weight gain and loss, sun exposure, and genetics.

Treatment options for a "turkey neck" include cosmetic procedures, such as neck lifts and neck injections, as well as non-invasive treatments, such as ultrasound therapy and skin tightening creams.

In some cases, lifestyle changes, such as maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding sun exposure, and adopting a consistent skincare routine, can also help to improve the appearance of a "turkey neck."

Jowls tend to creep up on us with age, depending on our genetics and our bone structure. As we age, the skin around our jawline loses elasticity and the skin’s production of collagen – our skin’s internal scaffolding – decreases meaning it no longer has the strength to defy gravity.

Sun damage, genetics, weight fluctuations and unhealthy lifestyle choices can all speed up the effects of gravity and our faces start to lose definition as a result.

Remember that jowls are entirely natural and most of us end up with them - but if you want to get rid of or minimise yours, you don’t have to suffer…. there are things you can do about this.

Jowl Treatments

CACI JOWL LIFT (MICRO CURRENT)

Our entire body is made up of electrical charges that pulse through us. Microcurrent mimics the body’s own natural bioelectrical field and sends tiny electrical currents into our muscles to re-educate them and remind them of their overall purpose.

Microcurrent is a very small current so most clients will find microcurrent very relaxing, but you usually need a course of 10 – 15 treatments for optimum affect.

RADIO FREQUENCY

Radio Frequency or RF penetrates the skin causing the tissues to heat up to 38-40 degrees. This has a tightening affect on skin, due to the thermal reaction causing the collagen to contract and reform. Again you would need a course of RF treatments for best results.

MICRO NEEDLING

This is where we create thousands of microscopic channels into the skin to trigger a controlled healing response.

Your skin will respond to the needling by producing new collagen and elastin, leaving your skin firmer, plumper and more youthful. For best results a treatment plan would be required.

HIFU

Unlike radio frequency, micro-current and micro-needling treatments, the sought after HIFU treatment work deeper into the skin tissue (the same layer a plastic surgeon works on).

This treatment uses high intensity ultrasound for collagen reformation, but you only need to have one treatment per year. It is incredibly effective.

INJECTABLES (only available with Nurse Julie)

Jawline filler is in high demand at the moment. You might think that if you have a problem with jowls, the last thing you’d want would be to add any volume to the area - but placing filler carefully along the line of the jaw can help to make the jaw look more defined, and the jowls appear less obvious.

If anyone is scared of injectables do not be as this procedure hardly hurts and can have fabulous results with an experienced practitioner.

COSMETIC SURGERY

If you have a lot of loose skin and/or heavy jowls descending under your jaw and into your neck, and if you’re a bit older, you may be better off considering a neck lift or lower face lift to deal with them.

I know surgery is something that most people want to avoid, but if you are past the point where tweakments can make enough of a difference for you, it is worth considering.
